Étude — Piano Practice Tracker

Support

Étude records you at the piano and plays your first take against your latest — the same piece, months apart, back to back.

Getting started

Put your phone on the piano, press record, and play.

Name the piece afterwards, or leave it for later. A take needs to be at least five seconds long to be kept.

Record the same piece again, another day.

That second take is where Étude starts being useful: you can then play the two back to back and hear what changed.

Common questions

Where are my recordings stored?

On your phone, and only there. They are never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes them.

Why can't I compare on my first take?

There is nothing to compare it to yet. Record the same piece a second time and the comparison opens.

The app is taking a lot of storage.

Recordings are kept uncompressed so that nothing is lost. You can see how much space they use, and delete them all, in Settings → Recordings.

Can I get my recordings out of the app?

Yes — Settings → Recordings → Export all recordings.

Étude asked for microphone access. Why?

To record you playing. It is used while a take is running and at no other time, and it is only requested the first time you press record.
